Power of Prophecy

Pastor Joseph Muriika

Hosea 12:13, ‘‘by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved.’’

The Bible is very clear on the matters of prophecy. Prophets are God’s servants to whom He gives messages and directions for His people from time to time. He is the messenger and not the originator of the message; he only passes on what he has been instructed to. God Himself is the author, most of these pronouncements are for the future of those it is addressed or directed.

Because God always wants to keep an open line of communication with His people, He appointed prophets of His own choice, unlike the priesthood; which God entrusted to the family of Levi, God has no family lineage of appointed prophets. He chooses them from among the common people. There are no special physical attributes of those to be chosen, God through His wisdom chooses whom He wants to be His ‘voice’ to the people. The message is most of the time not very popular, because God wants to challenge our authority or ways in which we conduct our daily transactions in this life. On the other hand man wants to maintain status quo and this makes the prophet a very unpopular person. History has it that many prophets have been persecuted by authorities for a very long time. Elijah was constantly persecuted by Ahab and Jezebel; Jeremiah by the establishment with direct commission for such persecution by God Jeremiah 1:17~19 “Therefore prepare yourself and arise, and speak to them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed before their faces, lest I dismay you before them. For behold, I have made you this day A fortified city and an iron pillar, And bronze walls against the whole land Against the kings of Judah, Against its princes, Against its priests, And against the people of the land.  They will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you. For I am with you,” says the LORD, “to deliver you.” (NKJV)

All the prophecy as I said before is meant for general good of all mankind; for them to mend their relationship with their Maker before consequences overtake them. The perpetrators of the injustices are the ones that target the Prophets; we might be so focused on the days of the old forgetting our current situations.

Through God’s servants many establishments, government’s political leaders and opinion leaders have been warned to change some phrases in legislation that are detrimental to the Faith in God, but have they headed? The answer is NO. Why because it infringes on other people’s rights or so they say.

I wish to remind our leaders, globally, regionally, nationally, and locally that no matter what their opinions are on issues affecting what God has said should or should not happen is, unfortunately is His will that will prevail. With or without their consent, in happiness or in sorry whatever He has said, He will do. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of their resistance to God’s established living standards, His accepted social norms, the accepted levels of human interactions. They heeded not to the voice of Lot when he intervened for his visitors, little did they know that they were courting disaster in the name of pleasure.

Governments world over are busy passing ridiculous legislations in the name of protecting the rights of minorities this or that and any other such selfish interest groups with little or no regard to the voice of the clergy, yet when disasters overtake them they run to they spiritual leaders for direction and prayers. This in itself is mocking God, for He has placed Spiritual leaders in the midst of His people not to just be seen but to be heard as well. I wish to let our leaders know that every successful leader in our time and even the past had established a good working relationship with men and women of God. King David for example is one such successful king from day one he had his door open to God’s prophets any time of the day and his kingdom flourished and God said this about him; ‘‘he is the man after My Own heart.’’

King Saul had problems because he killed all the men of God. When he was faced with eminent destruction he turned to medium and to the dead for guidance Samuel 28:15 ‘‘now Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” And Saul answered, “I am deeply distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God has departed from me and does not answer me anymore, neither by prophets nor by dreams. Therefore I have called you that you may reveal to me what I should do.”

This is what happens to the leaders who ignore advice of God’s servants, those who take them for granted. Great leaders in the world current and who walked with God set foundations for their countries that held them together for many years but the world leaders today are more bent on destroying those very foundations that have held their respective nations for many many years.

What I am asking is this ‘do current leaders know better than their predecessors? The answer is no. no human wisdom can surpass God’s wisdom. While leaders across the world pass legislation to legalize same sex marriages, and abortion with total disregard to God’s explicit commandments (Leviticus 18) then nations are headed for extinction, the Sodom and Gomorrah type. Men and women of God in past and present have spoken that the time is at hand. The time spoken in the Bible as the last days are hear with us, let those who know the Lord continue to be righteous and those who are unrighteous continue in their unrighteousness. The end is near, and in deed it is here with us. I agree with the men and women of God who are persecuted across the world and repressed by laws that are against spreading of the Gospel of Christ. The antichrist is at work.

In Kenya one cannot hold a crusade or a rally without censure of noise pollution control law that came into force recently, in Kenya, the parliament passed law to legalize abortion for whatever flimsy excuses. This happened despite pressure from the clergy not to pass these laws but they passed it anyway.

The debate about anti Christ is as real here as it is everywhere in the developed nations. The antichrist is here and at work in a very high gear. Whatever means he uses I know that God will prevail in every way. The Bible says that nations are established by prophesy but this time the reverse is true, countries across the world are on a self destruct mode because of their ignorance and insensitivity to the servants of God. In fact it is not ignorance but defiance to the sanctity of God’s Word and authority.

They are fighting a losing war if you ask me but then those who are on God’s side need not worry because He is the One who fights and vindicates His elect. Psalm 100:1~5 Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands!  Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations’’ No matter what happens, those that stand the word of God shall be established and those that don’t shall reap what they have planted.
